Some consideration when picking ball screws.
1. Loads
Understanding the loads your ballscrew will experience is essential. This includes not only the axial load but also any dynamic or shock loads that may occur during operation. Selecting a ballscrew with the correct load rating helps prevent premature wear and ensures consistent performance over time.
2. Critical Speed
Every ballscrew has a maximum rotational speed before vibration becomes an issue. Operating beyond the critical speed can lead to noise, reduced accuracy, and potential failure. Evaluating stroke length, mounting configuration, and operating speed early in the design process will help you select a ballscrew that runs smoothly and safely.
3. Buckling
For longer strokes or higher loads, buckling becomes a key consideration. If the ballscrew is not properly sized or supported, compressive forces can cause deflection or failure. Checking buckling limits ensures the ballscrew maintains rigidity and accuracy throughout its full travel.
