Cleaning Filament is a specialised material designed for maintaining and optimizing 3D printers by addressing issues related to filament residue and clogs. It is particularly useful when switching between filament types with significant differences in print temperatures. The purpose of the Cleaning Filament is to prevent clogs caused by remnants of high-temperature filament in the nozzle while printing at lower temperatures. Additionally, it helps remove carbonized chunks of plastic that may accumulate inside the nozzle over extended periods.

To use the Cleaning Filament effectively, follow these steps:

  1. Switching Filaments:

    • When changing from a high-temperature filament to a lower-temperature one, flush the hot-end with Cleaning Filament.
    • Set the hot-end to the highest temperature of the previous filament and run a bit of Cleaning Filament through the nozzle.
    • Remove the Cleaning Filament, set the nozzle to the desired temperature of the new filament, and load the new filament, flushing the nozzle again.
  2. Cold Pulls:

    • If clogs persist after the initial steps, perform a cold pull using the Cleaning Filament.
    • Heat the hot-end to 240°C, remove the PTFE tube, and insert one end of the Cleaning Filament into the hot-end from the top.
    • Push the filament down while maintaining constant downward pressure and lower the hot-end temperature to about 100°C.
    • Give the free end of the Cleaning Filament a strong upward pull at 100°C to dislodge trapped filament.
    • Cut away the dirty section of the Cleaning Filament and repeat if necessary until it comes away clean.

By incorporating Cleaning Filament into the maintenance routine, users can optimize the performance of their 3D printers and prevent issues associated with temperature variations between different filaments.
